What We Do

Matthew1027 has two primary functions.

  1. Public Evangelistic Ministry

    2. We do this by…

    • Distributing plastic John336.com bags.  Each bag contains the whole Bible (both old and new testaments), and solid teaching which focuses on the message of salvation and the veracity of Scripture.  It is our goal to distribute John336.com bags to those that we encounter on the streets and universities of Portland during our outreaches.     • Engaging in personal dialogue with individuals.  We share with people one-on-one in a caring, personal, and winsome manner.  In the context of these conversations it is our goal to challenge individuals to consider their need for God, repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ.
    • Proclaiming the gospel through Christ centered, gospel saturated and personally engaging in open air preaching.  We realize that many people have had bad experiences with open air preachers, and we hope to be the anomaly.  Even though there have been many who have abused this public forum, misrepresenting Jesus and the good news He brings, we do not believe that Christians should abandon this forum altogether.  Though most people who hear the good news count it as foolish, some count it as the power of God that brings salvation.  We want to boldly, lovingly and winsomely challenge people to consider the veracity of Scripture, the depravity of man and the Lordship of Christ.  We believe that “the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it,” and His truth deserves to be sounded throughout the whole earth, including on the streets of Portland.
    • Following Up with people who have been significantly impacted by interactions with us or the material we have distributed.  John336.com is a place for people who have been impacted by our ministry to ask questions about the Bible, request prayer or find out about Bible studies and gospel centered churches in the Portland area.

     

  2. Mobilization of the Church in Local Evangelism

    3. We do this by…

    • Utilizing the contributions of those who seek to play a financial role in this ministry by sponsoring John336.com bags for distribution.  The contributors partner with us in the evangelism of the lost in Portland by providing Bibles, gospel teachings and apologetics materials for free distribution.
    • Equipping individuals within the Church to evangelize by distributing John336.com bags with us. We also seek to train people in one-on-one evangelism and the ministry of proclamation.
    • Encouraging others to pray that the gospel of truth would be proclaimed in the streets of Portland and that lost men and women would draw near to God through the miracle of new birth.  We encourage intercessors to join our prayer team and partner with us in the evangelism of the lost in Portland.  God moves through your prayers!
